This was one of those posts I couldn’t make my mind up what to call it, ‘Red shift’, ‘in the pink’, ‘A for Alex’ all came to mind. The images were taken a few weeks ago, but I’ve only just had the opportunity to write about it.
Portrait photography tends to divide into two main types ‘studio’ and ‘lifestyle’. With studio photography, you get to control a lot of the elements such as background and lighting. With lifestyle you get none of those things being reliant on what the situation provides both in the way of backgrounds and lighting. In this sequence the red light is totally natural. While looking around for potential backgrounds on this particular family photoshoot, I noticed a red glow coming from under the door, created by a strong sun striking red carpet in the hallway outside. Opening the door the passage way was just suffused with with glorious red/pink glow and too good an opportunity to miss. The flat’s number ‘A’ on the door was also a bit of luck and not something I originally noticed, but I did spot it quickly enough to make sure it was in a few shots. Now the difficult bit, getting a 2 year old child to go where you want them to! With an adult model you can pose them as much as you like. Not usually possible with a young child :-)
Anyway let me know what you think.
