Just got back from picking up my camera and a lens from Canon’s own servicing and repair place in Elstree and I must say it was a very quick turn around. Almost felt the email notification that my camera was ready for collection turned up as soon I got home from dropping it off. I could have posted my camera and lens to them, but considering the amount of hassle it takes to find the right box and padding to safely send things, I decided it was just as easy to drop off my camera equipment directly, as for me Elstree in North London is little over a half hour drive from me.
So why service a camera? Well if you are a professional photographer relying on your equipment it makes sense to have it checked over once in a while to make sure it is working fine :-)
The camera service is not exactly cheap, but much less than the cost of a new camera and some peace of mind when undertaking those photoshoots you cannot repeat such as weddings, although it always makes sense to have a backup camera.
Incidentally when phoning Canon UK, you need to select option 2 on the phone (service or repair already underway) to get through to the service center. Selecting option 1 passes you direct to a European customer service center who although very helpful cannot answer the sort of question you want to ask the service center.
