I had a lovely photoshoot at the Sir Harold Hillier’s gardens the other day, working with this lovely family in this very beautiful arboretum, in Romsey, Hampshire. The gardens are very child-friendly and although for me a bit of a trek (about an hours drive from Reading), I find it well worth it. Just to visit for all the assorted plants and trees (can’t you tell I like my plants :-)) and a day out for my own family, let alone a great spot for family and portrait photography as these gardens are a beautiful place to visit at any time of the year.
I loved working with Beth and Andy and their children, for the chemistry they just have together and of course the children brought their own individual personalities and energy to the photoshoot, which as a photographer you just tap into :-) An added bonus was the beautiful day we had for it. Although the combination of strong sunlight and shade warranted greater use of off-camera flash. Anybody there that day would have seen me walking around with my purple trolley (it’s also great for carrying children by the way! :-)).
By the end of the day, there were some really great images, as we had already identified parts of the arboretum that appealed such as the boardwalk under the huge gunnera leaves. Definitely a day with lots of fun, but that’s for me what family and children’s photoshoots should be.
