I found myself returning to Hastings (UK) for this photoshoot, to photograph a couple of families I had the pleasure of photographing two years ago and some memorable images. As tempting as it was to use the old town in Hastings and the fishing boats like last time. This time we focussed on using a little known local landmark, a replica Roman Bath built around a natural spring in the 1830’s by Wastel Brisco (1). As it happened a small bridge built over the drain from the spring also provided some interesting photo-opportunities. At the end of the day we moved to the old town and Rock-a-Nore to round off the shoot where there are some lovely old weather boarded net sheds and clinker built fishing boats.
It was a fun shoot and good opportunity to practice off camera flash combinations usually one softbox and one direct or bounced flash. It was also great meeting up with the families again. They had expressed a wish for some images of their youngest children together who were often hand in hand and generally being BFF’s as well as individual and family groups.
