Being a father its not too much of a surprise to find myself frequently at the local playgrounds with my son. I don’t always go down there with camera, but some days I take advantage of being able to practice my photography and having an indifferent subject. Okay indifferent is perhaps not quite right, Benjamin likes exploring my camera and all the buttons given half the chance.
For me it is important to go with the flow and watch how a child interacts with the equipment and also look for different angles. Most of my shots in these situations are opportunistic, i.e. just grabbing the shot as it presents itself as it is not easy to guide a toddler or young child to do something specific. BUT most importantly if you work with a child its always worth getting down to their level (literally!) and seeing the world from their viewpoint.
