Do you feed your wedding photographer or not?
This question seems to be doing rounds at the moment and hopefully the question is not a decider about whether you hire a specific wedding photographer or not. Obviously you should be choosing your wedding photographer for other reasons. Do really want to be saying “I loved the style of their images, but I didn’t want to feed them so I didn’t hire them.”? At least I hope not it’s not probably a high priorty question.
I can’t answer for other wedding photographers, but in my case I do not want to have a meal provided, even if offered and on a full day shoot. Instead I’ll bring along my own sustinance even if it’s a cereal bar or three and find a convenient opportunity in the day to snaffle them. Here’s why… I find I miss things. The problem is not being a guest, there is a good chance I will be served last and possibly even asked to eat in another room. Eating last means things start happening like after dinner speeches while I’m still eating and worse still if I’m another room I won’t know about it.
But surely I don’t want to take photos of people eating? Most images of people eating don’t work, but there are certain images that DO work, such as if bride and groom try to feed each other, or there’s a child being particularly messy or cute. I look out for those photo opportunities. However, it’s really at the end of the meal when people have stopped eating and starting to chat, relax and socialise that the photo opportunities arise. Then of course there’s the after dinner speeches and any entertainment which I don’t want to miss.
Missing lunch and/or dinner is no big deal for me, but I’ll certainly need something at the end of the day :-)
